"Trap of the Truth": the new exhibition of the great artist Erwin Wurm.

Erwin Wurm (b. 1954) is one of the most important Austrian artists who, in more than three decades of artistic activity, has been able to challenge and reinvent the rules of contemporary sculpture, the limits of the human body and, above all, its relationship to space and the objects that surround us.

'Trap of the Truth' is a new exhibition, located at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and features more than 100 works, including 55 indoor sculptures, 19 sculptures in the landscape, paintings, photographs, videos and drawings from the artist's 30-year career.

Clare Lilley, director of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, speaks of the artist's sculptures as a "riot of expression and colour in the Yorkshire green" and Wurm's "limitless imaginative power", and will lead visitors to be "inspired, stimulated, confused and entertained by sculptures that depict familiar objects but in a completely unexpected way".

This exhibition therefore traces the entire career of the Austrian artist. In the presentation piece for this exhibition, we read that "Over the course of three decades, he has challenged the rules of sculpture, the limits of the human body and its relationship to the spaces we inhabit. His work disrupts the perception of the familiar and the sensible and, in a process rich in humour and experimentation, he often reimagines common objects by giving them human characteristics. Wurm reflects on what sculpture is and what it can be, expanding its boundaries and questioning the value and importance we attach to everyday objects. The artist is both playful and political: he uses ridiculous scenarios to create works that address the way we conform to societal demands and where sculpture can challenge cultural beliefs".

Pictured: a 5.6-metre long Mercedes truck shows the vast variation of scale with which Wurm works, and the bright red folded truck (2011) appears to have tipped over onto the gallery wall where it rests, precariously. There will not only be an exhibition, but also a lively programme of activities focusing on play, discovering materials and experimenting with processes. The exhibition will be accompanied by an illustrated guide and catalogue, and supported by Thaddaeus Ropac and Lehmann Maupin.
